Huntley’s firework show could be rescheduled to Labor Day weekend says village trustee
HUNTLEY — In light of the Highland Park shooting tragedy that took the lives of seven people and injured many more, Village of Huntley officials decided that it was for the best to postpone their Fourth of July fireworks show.
The announcement was made by the village on July 4 not long after the shooting incident had occurred.
Huntley officials did not indicate the new date of the fireworks show, however, Village Trustee Ronda Goldman told My Huntley News that she believes that it will potentially be moved to take place on Labor Day weekend in September.
“The fireworks will most likely occur during Labor Day weekend,” Goldman said via email correspondence. “Once before when the original date had to be canceled, the fireworks were rescheduled to the Labor Day weekend.”
While it is not for sure certain when Huntley’s fireworks show will take place, residents, for the most part, were supportive of the village’s decision of paying its respects to the Highland Park victims by postponing its show.
Goldman added that she is unsure if the Highland Park tragedy will have any impact on future events in the village, but says as of now, the only other event that had had to get rescheduled was the village’s July 5 Concert in the Square featuring the Blooze Brothers.
That event was rescheduled due to unfavorable weather conditions and is expected to now take place on Aug. 23.
