Good cheer and fun at the Beer Mile Run

Make history and have fun at the first annual Beer Mile Run on Saturday, July 29.

This outdoor event is open to the public and is hosted by the Huntley Historical Society and Sew Hop'd Brewery at the Sew Hop'd Brewery location, 1 Union Special Plaza, Huntley. The mile-long race starts at 12 p.m., so come out, get set, and cheer on the "chugging" runners! However, the fun is just getting a good start at the finish line...Mingle with friends on the historical property while enjoying tasty food truck fare, live music, and specialty crafted brews.

Respiratory illnesses on the rise, public health officials encourage prevention

McHENRY COUNTY — The McHenry County Department of Health is urging McHenry County residents to take steps geared toward slowing the spread of infectious respiratory diseases as cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and seasonal influenza have increased. COVID-19 cases have also begun to increase, but community levels remain low at this time.

 

The symptoms for all three illnesses may be indistinguishable. While some people, especially older children, may experience mild symptoms, others are at increased risk of severe complications.

MCDH to sponsor residential tire recycling event

McHENRY COUNTY — The McHenry County Department of Health is sponsoring a free tire recycling event for pre-registered McHenry County residents on Saturday, Oct. 22.

Registered participants who are McHenry County residents may drop off passenger size and light truck size tires from 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 22 at the McHenry County Division of Transportation, 16111 Nelson Road in Woodstock. The tires will be recycled by Liberty Tire Recycling.

The following event restrictions apply:

Only McHenry County residents are eligible.

Drink in Cider ambiance this Sunday

UNION – Visitors to the 45th annual Cider Fest will get an opportunity to step back in time with skilled artisans, a turn-of-the-century cider press, children’s activities, music and vintage items for sale.

Blacksmith Sam Johnson, flintknapper Richard Hamilton and broom maker Bob McCann will anchor this year’s festival, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at the McHenry County Historical Museum in Union. Civil War re-enactor Chris Dosch – a Zouave with the 114th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment – will conduct demonstrations throughout the day.

OPINION: WHY LYND?

D-?  Really? I am aghast that many of our elected officials seem poised to enter into a business relationship with Lynd Properties. As was mentioned at the February 24, 2022 Village Board meeting, Lynd Properties has a D- rating with the Better Business Bureau. Goodness sake! Why would our village continue to pursue the development of Regency Square with this company?

On top of more than 1,000 residents who signed petitions to block this development, the proposed development would further endanger the lives of many residents who use Regency and Princeton Roads with their electronic wheelchairs. 

Kane County Health Department Urges Residents to Change Behavior to Stop the Surge of COVID-19 Cases

KANE COUNTY - The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) added Kane County to its COVID-19 county watch list today. Two of metrics which triggered the warning level for Kane County include increases in the new case rate and number of deaths.

Kane County Health Department (KCHD) Director Barbara Jeffers requests that residents limit activities that could spread COVID-19.

“Yesterday, the State of Illinois announced the highest number of new cases identified on a single day in the entire pandemic,” said Jeffers.
