Remaining ‘purple’ LED streetlights seen around Huntley set to be replaced
HUNTLEY — Residents who have driven around at night in certain areas of the village may have come by some streetlights that give off a strange purple glow.
The interesting color given off by these streetlights isn’t on purpose, however, and it’s not just Huntley that has had this phenomenon overtake its lights.
Various surrounding villages and towns have also reported their own fair share of what once were white LED streetlights, turning purple after a few months.
According to some experts, this happens due to a filter failure which causes the normally white-hued lights to turn purple over time after being exposed to certain environmental conditions.
The Village of Huntley has replaced a majority of the faulty streetlights, though there are still a few of them that can be seen along Charles H. Sass Parkway.
As of this week, Huntley has received a shipment of replacement light fixtures, stated Assistant Director of Public Works and Engineering Jason Irvin.
Additionally, Irvin told My Huntley News that the remaining faulty streetlights are set to be replaced starting the week of Nov. 14.
