Chicago man who stole a vehicle from Island Lake arrested in Woodstock after striking a parked motorcycle
WOODSTOCK — On Aug. 3, at approximately 8:29 p.m., the Woodstock Police Department was dispatched to the area of US Route 14 and Dean Street in response to a driving complaint that was reported.
According to the police department, a motorcyclist utilized their helmet’s Bluetooth capabilities to contact NERCOM (North East Regional Communications Center) dispatchers after they noticed that a black Nissan Sentra had been following them at dangerously close distances.
Following the call, the motorcycle rider proceeded to drive their motorcycle into the Woodstock Square, while the black Nissan Sentra still followed close behind. The motorcyclist subsequently parked their bike in a parking space in the 100 block of Cass Street and walked up onto the sidewalk.
The driver of the black Nissan Sentra then pulled into the same parking where the motorcycle was parked and struck it.
Woodstock Police officers arrived on scene shortly after the crash occurred and talked with both the motorcyclist and the driver of the black Nissan Sentra. It was there that the vehicle driver was identified as Jeremy J. Doane, 41, of Chicago. It was further determined that there was no prior association between Doane and the motorcyclist.
While the investigation continued, officers were advised by NERCOM that the black Nissan Sentra had just recently been reported as stolen from Island Lake, with the owner of the vehicle also having stated that they had a Glock pistol stored inside of the car.
As a result of the new information, authorities placed Doane under arrest. The pistol was located inside of the vehicle and was secured by Woodstock Police officers.
Custody of Doane and the pistol were turned over to the Island Lake Police Department, who responded to the scene.
The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office approved criminal charges sperate from the ones from Island Lake.
As of Aug. 4, Doane is currently being held at the McHenry County Adult Correctional Facility in Woodstock and is being charged with at least five felonies.
His next court date is scheduled for Aug. 7 at 9 a.m. and his bond is set at $4,000.
