As much as I’d like you to think that my Gentleman Friend and I have been married blissfully and perfectly happy for the past several decades, I’m going to take a risk and tell you that sometimes, we fight. Our fights aren’t typically the loud, plate-throwing variety. We’ve mastered the art of subtle tiffs, starting out as a tiny slight that grows into a stand-off —— and I am the half of us most guilty of this —— in an all-encompassing silence that can be louder than a freight train.

But sometimes you know exactly to the moment when it happens.

The house where our kids grew up was in Schaumburg. It was ten years old when we bought it, so it had already been somebody else’s home, and as my wife and I toured it during their open house, we wanted to see what would make us feel that this house could be home to us.

For me, that happened when the owners took us into the attached garage.

The Red Raiders’ post-season hopes were dashed by Barrington, 9-5, at the Huntley sectional May 22. Five players – Katie Ferrara, Ally Schneider, Leah Holmberg and Ashley Zolen, tallied goals.  Head coach Joe Domka reflected on the season and the team’s leaders.

“Ferrara has had her best statistical career as of yet, with 67 goals, 31 assists, 62 ground balls and 41 caused turnovers,” Domka said.

Although the home team fell to the Scouts 12-2, ending the Red Raiders’ season May 30, the future looks strong. A group of nine Class of 2023 members who finished 17-5 and a second straight sectional win, will turn the leadership over to the same number of lacrosse playing members of the Class of 2024.

In a press conference, Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain stated that on the day of the incident, deputies were alerted of a car hijacking that took place in Aurora. The vehicle, which was identified as a Honda Accord, was located using license plate readers that are located throughout the county.

There was  only one base runner allowed,  who reached on a wild pitch, was taken off the bases on a pick-off from Ressler to first baseman CJ Filipek. Ressler faced the minimum of 21 batters with about an 80-pitch effort.  The fan of White Sox pitching star Dylan Cease noted what was working this windy Saturday at Hampshire.

Although the Red Raiders’ season ended with a 5-0 loss to Lake Zurich at the Machesney Park Harlem sectional semifinal May 23, the squad ended with the most wins in seven years. HHS won its own regional championship and had a six-game win streak before the loss to the Bears.

“Overall, I’m very proud of the girls,” Huntley head coach Matt Lewandowski said. “We sat down at the beginning of the season and set some goals – we achieved all of them.

The Red Raiders, 16-4 overall, moved to the round two wins from the state finals with an 18-11 win over Lakes and an earlier 22-3 victory over Grant. Fox Valley Conference rival Prairie Ridge was the next hurdle May 26 in the Grayslake North sectional final.

Huntley was seeking to match last season’s advancement to the super sectional. This season’s super sectional is at HHS on May 30.

According to a HPD press release, seat belts have proven to be life-saving in the event of a crash. Unfortunately, many still don’t buckle up. Also, not wearing a seat belt is a habit that can be passed on to younger generations who follow the example set by their elders.

The distance runners qualified for state in the 3,200 meter run. Breanna clocked a 10:40.36 to earn a fifth-place finish for HHS, while Brittney ended 16th in a time of 11:03.59 at Eastern Illinois University May 20.

“She is our best distance runner ever at HHS,” head coach Jason Monson said of Breanna.

The Red Raiders bring a 27-7 record into their first regional test, against Rockford Jefferson May 24 at Hampshire.

“We have prepared for the post-season all year, and now we get to start on Wednesday,” Huntley head coach Andy Jakubowski said. “Our guys are ready for the post-season and now it comes down to  pitching, defense and situational hitting.

Huntley needed comeback efforts for championships by freshman Will Geske at No. 1 singles and the No.1 doubles team of Ben Hein and Jon Stec to edged Hampshire, 16-13, for the title. The IHSA State Tennis championships are May 25-27 at Palatine and other surrounding schools.

“This was the first sectional title for the boys team,” Red Raiders coach Barry Wells said.

As previously reported in My Huntley News, on Nov. 30, 2021, Algonquin Police officers were dispatched to the 400 block of La Fox River Drive for a “well-being check” after a resident, Peter M. Almen, failed to show up to work that day.

Upon arrival at the residence, police officers attempted to contact Peter and his wife, Elvira “Ella,” however, no one came to answer the door.

Sophomore Tommy Nitz advanced from the DeKalb Sectional with a second place finish in the 3,200-meter run while senior McKale Hood won the high jump. The Red Raiders finished a strong fourth place with 47 points. Fresh from winning the Fox Valley Conference boys cross country and sectional meets, Nitz was poised for a big sophomore season in track and field distance running.

HHS featured championships by senior Ally Panzloff ‘s 48.73 meters in the discus throw; senior Alexandria Johnson in the long jump with a 5.96 meters  and sister sophomore Dominique Johnson in the triple jump, 12.35 meters.

Head coach Jason Monson explained the feeling from when the title was determined to a welcome home.

“The ride home was long but it was exciting because we knew the community would show up,” Monson said.

The 17-3-3 Red Raiders won their own tourney at Red Raider Stadium in convincing style, a 5-0 triumph over DeKalb which followed an 8-0 pasting of Rockford East.

Sparked by a hat trick of goals by leading scorer Helzer, the Red Raiders moved on to sectional for the first time in six seasons. Huntley travels to Machesney Park Harlem to face Lake Zurich in the sectional semifinals May 23.

Huntley District 158, along with the other selected school districts, are members of AASA’s Learning 2025 Network, a group of more than 120 demonstration districts representing “forward-leaning, urban,  suburban, and rural school systems engaged in learning, networking and working together to help drive ‘policy and ultimately improve student learning,” according to the District 158 press release.
