HHS football well represented on all-league squad

HUNTLEY – Eleven Huntley football players earned All-Fox Valley Conference(FVC) honors while one state-wide recognition and two were named to the Illinois Football Coaches Association (IFCA) all-academic team. HHS was co-FVC champion and finished with an 8-2 record.

Huntley senior linebacker Dashaun Manning was honored as honorable mention by the IFCA and also was All-FVC.  He totaled more than 100 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and four sacks.

The All-FVC players selected by the league’s head coaches were: seniors quarterback Sam Deligio; lineman Eric Bower; wide receiver Connor Ardell; defensive back CJ Filipek; lineman Ben Wiley; defensive back James Lang; defensive back Zack Garifo and linebacker Joey Arvidson. Juniors honored are running back Haiden Janke and lineman Jack Crudele.

HHS head coach Mike Naymola commented on Manning.

“Manning was the best player on the best defense in the FVC this year,” Naymola said. “He showed up each week and ultimately it helped our team have success on the field. Knowing how unselfish he is as a person, he would gladly return any accolades he gets this year for more wins during the playoffs. That’s just the kind of person he is.”

The position switch from corner back to linebacker did not phase Manning.

“He was unsure about making the move from corner back to linebacker this year because he had a great deal of success last year playing corner back,” Naymola said. “Our staff thought it was the right move and boy did that work out for us. Manning has great football instincts and did not shy away from contact which made him the ideal linebacker. Once he settled into his new role it was like he has been playing that position for years. His ability to adapt to his new role was fun to watch and he was able to help teammates in the process.”

Bower and Filipek gained All-IFCA all-academic honors.

The Red Raiders shared the FVC title (8-1 records) with Jacobs and Prairie Ridge. Andrew ousted HHS from the first round of the Class 8A playoffs.
